We are thrilled to be selected as a finalist in the category of Best Building Society/Mutual in the coveted Financial Reporter Awards (FRA25).

Finalists for the award are selected by a group of independent judges based on achievements and improvements made by the Society during 2024. The awards ceremony will be held 18 June at Freight Island, Manchester.

Laura Sneddon, Head of Mortgage Sales & Distribution, commented:

“The whole team is very proud of this achievement. We are all genuinely passionate about being a lender that is a pleasure to do business with, and we feel in our hearts that we are making a real difference to homebuyers and brokers alike.”

At the core of our nomination was our pioneering role in the mortgage space during the year, with wide-ranging initiatives and product innovations that have a common goal: to support the evolving borrowing needs of our customers and to provide brokers with the first-class service they deserve.

Of the many initiatives launched during 2024, one of the most impactful was our introduction of mortgages for holders of Skilled Worker and Health & Care visas. We were also the first to offer a meaningful Triple Zero solution: a barrier-busting requirement of no minimum income, no minimum time in the UK, and no minimum time left on the visa.

We have since extended the reach of these products to include Ancestry and Global Talent visa holders, and launched buy-to-let products to support entrepreneurs and investors within the visa-holding community.

Another major step forward was the redefining of our ‘standard’ mortgage range. We renamed the product range Core because rather than comprising only a limited range of criteria into which a client must fit, the products offer a much broader set of flexible core criteria that fit the needs of a much wider range of clients.

We wrapped three key mortgage options around our Core range: JBSP, Later Life, and Tailored Term. This effectively enables a multitude of buyer scenarios to qualify (on paper) for a mortgage through a single flexible product group.

In addition, we introduced several measures aimed at providing a seamless broker journey. At the heart of this is our new Broker Assist Team: a proactive approach to anticipating potential problems and dealing with them quickly and efficiently, ensuring that the Underwriting Team have everything they need once they get into the nitty gritty of an application.

Taken together, the product and service changes we made during 2024 (and continue to make today) represent a significant step forward in supporting brokers and the evolving needs of their clients, and help to provide the best possible experience when dealing with Hinckley & Rugby.
